He would have been 88. He may be real gone, but this Thursday, March 11, author Jack Kerouac and the '50s Beat movement he begat are treated to a live, 21-sandal salute. courtesy of Atomic Cocktail, 5-6 p.m. California time on Luxuria. DJ host Vic Tripp promises a finger-snapping howl of a show, featuring not just Kerouac reading his poetry, but also savory Beat bits from Gregory Corso and Jack Hammer, plus faux-Beat musical oddities from Edd "Kookie" Byrnes, Rod McKuen, Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs and others. "The musical content," explains Tripp, "will be 80% Beat and Beat-related," with the remainder comprising the regular, highly potent Cocktail blend of "soul and rock that do not stop." For the 'We Got the Beats' show, the Action House Chat-room is being completely refurbished with bead curtains, wine-bottle candles and a temperamental espresso machine. Grab your beret and sashay on down.
