Since we've been having "no talking" editions of the "Heroes And Villains" program lately, I thought I'd use this method to pass along some news of interest to "H&V" listeners and BB/BW fans.
Adam Marsland's Chaos Band, who did such a great job entertaining the guests at the private reception following last May's dedication ceremony for the Beach Boys Landmark in Hawthorne, CA, are taking their act on the road. Their performance at the reception was a remarkable set consisting of rarely-heard Carl and Dennis Wilson compositions from both their Beach Boys and solo careers. You can hear mp3s of several of the tunes at . Keep an eye on Adam's website for details on when and where they'll be performing - it's worth a trip out of town! Chuck and I were very impressed with the gig, and I sure would jump at the chance to see them again.
Also, I wanted to chime in on Harry Jarnagan's post below - I got my copy of the Landmark Dedication DVD a short while ago, and it's a wonderful memento of an historic occasion, with terrific performances by Brian Wilson and other luminaries. Best of all, all items purchased at Harry's eBay store help support the ongoing maintenence of the Landmark. So please check out the eBay site, and pick up an item or two. The DVD in particular is a must for any hardcore BBs fan.
And of course, I hope that all of you who enjoy Luxuriamusic will do your part in donating to the station, to keep this great alternative to the mind-numbing corporate music scene alive and well.
Wanted to let everyone know that I’ve set up a Beach Boys Historic Landmark store on Ebay. You can get to it by going to http://stores.ebay.com/Beach-Boys-Historic-Landmark on the web. All merchandise sales are linked to Paypal. Items for sale include donated bricks (we’re still selling inscribed bricks on the monument), Landmark t-shirts and ball caps, dedication ceremony programs, and copies of the original landmark application submitted to the State of California. ALSO, there’s a new DVD produced by Hawthorne Community Television of the May 20, 2005 dedication and unveiling ceremony held in Hawthorne, California, of the Beach Boys Historic Landmark; California Landmark #1041, The Site of the Childhood Home of the Beach Boys. Besides the dedication ceremony featuring remarks and performances by many music and Beach Boys celebrities including Brian Wilson, it includes a variety of background interviews as well. This is a companion item to the Beach Boys Landmark Dedication Program, and is another collector's item of a memorable event in music history. All proceeds are non-profit, and go to cover construction and maintenance expenses for the monument. Price for the DVD is $25 to U.S. locations and $28 to all other international locations. Thanks again for your help and support in making the landmark monument a reality. Happy New Year, everyone. Harry Jarnagan
Here's a new article on "the wrecking crew" - 60's LA Session players (Carol Kaye, Hal Blaine, Earl Palmer, Emil Richards, Billy Strange, Glen Campbell...) that played on a good number of the songs that we play here at lux.
You got ashy and dirty? You Ground-Zero guy you!!!
I had said from the outset that my own story there was no big deal. Tower 2 went down when I was trying to squeeze onto a Staten Island Ferry, and the imbeciles on line wouldn't move any the faster when debris blew in off the Hudson River suspended with water drops, so that it looked like nuclear winter.
I wound up having to make my way across Staten Island by gypsy cab and then the Bayonne Bridge by foot. Then by city bus. So I didn't get home until 2pm, and proceeded to do the CNN veg-out thing about 20 hours a day for... a week maybe.
Grey: On 9/11 was working downtown got all ashey and dirty that day. Now. no longer downtown. I am working in the berbs. The hours are a little better. Only working pre-dawn on the weekends. Will start listening to the "Space Patrol" as soon as I get a better computer. the one that I have now is an ancestor of UNIVAC. ARMY
ps: You are too kind with the "Young Army". I haven't been called young in more years that I can remember.
