Visiting Los Angeles sometime in early January 2006

Hey Everyone who remembers me,

I am planning a trip to Los Angeles. It will be a very short trip, possibly only three days. Mainly for research for my thesis paper. I am in my last year of school. Yay! Need to get to the Getty and the Museum of Jerasic Technology. Need to show my business partner around town and he has someone he wants to visit.

So.... I am hoping to meet up with some of you Los Angelinos. Do you have time? I would also love to get in touch with the Millionaire and Sascha.

If you have a semi-open schedule, it would be great if we could plan to meet for dinner or possibly lunch?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Sorry for such a short post.

Armando Trovajoli -Nice

Wow...this is the first time I've heard Armando Trovajoli (Angola Adeus). What nice smooth stuff! Not hokey or dated at all. Music totally immersed in a very definite era, but transcendant at the same time. I thought of 1970, driving around with my Mom in her green car, listening to WABC AM, back when little kids were allowed to sit up front.

I approve of all types of beer, but I thought I'd warn you all of a painful lesson I learned over the weekend at a convention. If you bring champagne into a hotel, the hotel staff are required by law to open it for you, and they charge you for the service. So if you open your own, for heaven's sake don't do it in the lobby.

In a related note, many large hotels have giant riding vaccuum cleaners, not unlike riding lawn mowers, and they don't require keys.

reading is great but....

 lets get back to beer. What is the best poolside lounging beer--a dark stout or a nice flavory hefeweizen?

I am new to Luxuriamusic, but I find it to be the perfect fit for my executive lifestyle.

I would like to recommend some good winter reading to you all. The Swedish Martin Beck police novels of Maj Sjowall and Per Walhoo are the perfect winter mood leveler. Give them a try!

Thanks for the article about SCTV going on DVD. Chuck, who is your friend who is getting the talent for the audio commentary? What a fun job! Can I have Catherine O'Hara's phone number? (Does she have a daughter who looks just like her?) Andrea Martin too?

I have been revisiting some of my old SCTV tapes and the shows really do hold up. I love the news shows with Earl Camembert, and "Money Talks" with Brian Johns. Here is my general assessment of the cast:

-- Eugene Levy: The #1 genius of the show.
-- Joe Flaherty: Only sporadically funny on his own, but an important anchor in at least 50 percent of all sketches
-- Andrea Martin: A genius in her own right, even though the majority of her portrayals are highly annoying (hubris-filled) people. Some of her bits seem too directly carried over from the stage (Edith Prickley).
-- Catherine O'Hara: Smooth, sly caricaturist; almost always spot-on
-- Dave Thomas: Sometimes greatly inspired, other times clunky. Behind many of the best early sketches.
-- Rick Moranis: Hilarious, inspired. Perfect fit with rest of cast. Most cerebral ("Dick Cavett interviews himself!") and adept at making fun of pop culture ("The Gerry Todd Show").
-- John Candy: Craziest, and perhaps funniest, performer, though limited in range
-- Martin Short: Wild card with almost enough talent for his own show, but definitely needs other performers to ground his material.
-- Harold Ramis: Sadly disappeared behind the camera/typewriter after a few seasons. His "Crazy Legs" character is a favorite.
-- Robin Duke: Her sketch comedy only occasionally transferred successfully to TV. One of the few SCTV albums to end up on SNL (Martin Short eventually made the jump after cancellation; Andrea Martin was foolishly bumped for some nobody).
-- Tony Rosata (sp?): Definitely not funny. He was in few sketches, usually coupled with Robin Duke.

It still amazes me that after nearly 20 years, there still haven't been any comedy shows that even approach SCTV's level of inspiration, in terms of making fun of the material abudnant in pop culture today.

Cliff,
Are you still going to post this information? We would all love to know what is going on.

Worship BUSH... a GOD among immortals

The latest in my HATE ME, INCARCERATE ME, TAKE MY RIGHTS AWAY library is "The Lies of George W. Bush" by David Cohn.
As I am still reading "Bushwacked" by Molly Ivins... I can't tell you any more than that just now.

I'm reading

THE BEST DEMOCRACY MONEY CAN BUY by Greg Palast. Check out the real audio videos at www.gregpalast.com. Topics include Bush stealing the presidency, Bush's business dealings with the Bin Ladens, and all sorts of other things that just make you just so incredibly happy to be alive at this point in American history.

Beer & Politics

Hey, dood...you better be extollin' the virtues of good ol' Lone Star, or they'll haul your hiney to Gitmo under Patriot II for sure.

BEER

Many ameriKKKan beer drinkers would never, ever admit that with fresh, clear, drinkable water... THEIR FUCKING BEER TASTES BETTER TOO!

re: open doors

L.Grey - apparently the beer up here is more drinkabale too. I wouldn't know, these days I'm strictly a Shirley Temple man (well, except for the occassional belt of Aqua Velva.)

The Open Door policy

Let me guess - they've all come up from Detroit and environs, right?

Well, while they're up there ripping y'all off, ask them to sample your tap water, which would aghast most AmeriKKKicans by its relative drinkability, due to regulations controlling drinking water quality from a government that hasn't yet learned to sell the public health for PAC money.
I'd go to Canada myself if it weren't so fucking, fucking, fucking, fucking, fucking barbarically cold!

Lies, lies and more damned lies

Ever since that damn 'Columbine' movie, there's been a crime spree up here in Canada - all because Michael Moore let out our secret and told every second-rate thug and B&E artist in the entire world that we don't lock our doors. Thanks for nuthin' Mike!

Lying Liars and so forth

Yes, I completed that before the Moore shipped, and next I tackle Molly Ivins' "Bushwacked." I'm trying to get detained without Due Process under the provisions of Patriot II, and I figured this would be a good way to do it.

Post subject: "Dude, Where's My Country?"

Have you read the latest Al Franken book? I WOULD but I dont have any money.

Chuck

"Dude, Where's My Country?"

I have about... two/three chapters left to go on Michael Moore's new book. What I SHOULD do is check the stats on the web of how long it's wagered Michael Moore has left to live (before he's done away with by someone described as a "left-wing activist and spurned Moore supporter").

Um

any L.A luxie related events going down in the merry month of November? Vanity is ridin into town on his bestest most strongest horse.

The Free Design reissues are being released by Light In The Attic Records, which was co-founded by Matt Sullivan, who is responsible for bringing alot of you to Luxuria back in the old days. He used to be the editor/programmer for Real Player, he was the guy that put us in the REAL listings all the time. So if you buy a Free Design CD, you're not only supporting Lux, but also a Friend Of Lux. So please buy the CD's today....PRETTY PLEASE.

The webcam pics

Shisserich is/was the chatter named Teal Man. S stands for Steve.

The site with the pictures of Kaci et al

Hey, Chuck...have you (or someone) emailed this guy to let him know that Lux is back? It would be nice of him to (1.) sign up and listen; and (2.) put a link on his page to here--even if we end up playing second banana to SOMA-FM.

I love the title of his home page "You've gotta Live Somewhere".

Pictures of Lux DJ's

I just found this site that has old webcam pics of Kaci, Tea & Sea, Marianne...and one of the Millionaire.

http//webpages.charter.net/shisserich/luxdjs1.html

Kaci really could've killed herself standing on the desk like that. If I'd see her do that, she wouldve been in big trouble.

Heh.

The Vast empty wasteland that is the chat room

I know the station is running on a threadbare shoestring of a budget, but here are a few suggestions for making the chat a better place. I realize they can't be implemented, since Lux is using a free chat server somewhere, but I just can't keep my mouth shut.

That's just who I am.

The biggest problem I see is that the chat room ceases to exist when no one is in it. If the Luxotron, or the Admin, were to stay in there then when people popped in and/or left a message it would be there hours later when somone else popped in. Sure, its not as good as a chat room full of Luxuriants discussing the latest Sergio Mendez show, but its something.

Also, if the Lux Bot was there he could tell me what was playing, just like he used to.

That's my $0.02, I just cleaned out the couch so I have lots of change.

Woody

Farfisa compact organ

I know there are far from luxurious, but I just saw the Lords Of Altamont again, and that old school analog organ Jake plays is just too cool! He had the cover off of the box so you could see all the stuff spinning around inside to produce the cool trembello effect. He didn't light it on fire this time, probally at the insistance of the Knitting Factory. Well, what do you want for free.

If you live in europe, look out, they're are on there way to ransack you town and make off with the women folk.

Woody

How have I missed the return of Lux by 6 months?

I've been searching the Google space for any sign of Luxuria or the old crew from the old ship. Somehow the old Girl was rebuilt and relaunched six months ago and I missed it?

Well, I'm beyond glad its back. I just wish I was still working the old Fox office job which allowed me to listen and chat all day long. But now I've got a cable modem at home and I will definitely be listening and chatting all evening from now on.

Three Cheers for the Luxuria Crew!

Woody

High noon in the chat...

Damn! Missed you by a few minutes.

Barb's Shrine to Chuck

High noon on a Thursday and NOBODY'S in the Chat! Where is everybody?

Edsels with air suspension??!!?

I just happened to notice one of the old Edsel commercials that Luxotron occationally tosses into the mix makes mention, along with "the most useable power of any car you've ever driven" and "elecro-drive one-touch wiffbozzle" (or whatever), of air suspension having been offered on some models.

This rather took me by surprise, because I had thought GM had been the only US car maker to offer true air suspension (actual air bladders taking the place of springs, rather than conventional springs with air shocks added for automatic levelling).

I learned to drive in a so-equipped 1958 Cadillac. It had a feature where you could pull a lever and the entire car would rise about 8 inches higher off the ground, ostensibly to negotiate a really rock-strewn or rutted road. It used to be great fun to pull up behind some small car at a light and then make the Caddy rise up as if it was going to devour the poor thing (not unlike some of today's hydraulic-equipped "hoopty's"). At least that was the case until one day a valve got stuck and I had to drive the thing about 10 miles with the suspension pumped all the way up and significantly amplifying all the bumps instead of absorbing them.

Whats wrong...

I'm taking a 2-pronged approach until we get a better system, whenever I log onto Luxe Chat, I'm going to post in this thread and do my dangedest to stay in the chat app for at least an hour. I'm also looking at who is logged in to Luxe and messaging them personally. Hope to see all you cats and kittens in the chat room!

PLAN

My plan is to be in Lux chat from a good 15 minutes before my program to at least a good 15 minutes afterwards. That's an ironclad scheduling guarantee(e)e.

One of the Citi Financial "opener" spots....

...has an animated graphic of a little running man.

Anyoone else besides me ever administered an AIX system? It sure looks a helluva lot like "old Smitty".

Langourous Lass, you must not be shunned from Space Patrol just because of your job! The utter agony of it all!
